Jason Greig was born in Timaru, New Zealand in 1963. He graduated from the University of Canterbury School of Fine Arts, Christchurch, New Zealand in 1985 with honours in engraving, studying under renowned New Zealand printmaker, Barry Cleavin. He went on to teach at both Otago (Dunedin, New Zealand) and Canterbury school of art.

His etchings, mono-prints and lithographs consider the bleakness of the human condition with both humour and profundity, inspired by heavy metal music, Goya, French Symbolism and Gothic art and horror movies.

Greig has regularaly exhibited his lithographs, monoprints, drawings, paintings and etchings in New Zealand, Australia and internationally. His work is held in numerous private and public collections including Te Papa, Wellington; the Hocken Library in Dunedin; Christchurch Art Gallery and the Aigantighe Art Gallery, Timaru.
